BOB Raises $10M to Pioneer Bitcoin-Ethereum Hybrid Blockchain Integration
Mar 28, 2024
BOB, a hybrid layer-2 blockchain aiming to integrate Bitcoin with Ethereum's functionality through compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) standard, has successfully raised $10 million in seed funding. The funding round was led by Castle Island Ventures and included contributions from Mechanism Ventures, Bankless Ventures, CMS Ventures, UTXO Management, and notable angel investors such as Dan Held and Domo, the creator of the BRC-20 token standard. BOB seeks to pioneer the development of the first Bitcoin layer-2 network with EVM compatibility, allowing developers to deploy Ethereum-style smart contracts on the Bitcoin blockchain. This initiative addresses previous concerns regarding the feasibility of incorporating Ethereum-like functionalities into Bitcoin, with the proposed BitVM protocol aiming to conduct computations off-chain and subsequently validate them on-chain, akin to the mechanism employed by optimistic rollups on the Ethereum network, thus avoiding congestion and maintaining network performance.
