CISA Warns of Rising Impersonation Scams Targeting Crypto Investors Amid $4.6 Billion Threat
Jun 15, 2024
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has issued a warning about a surge in impersonation scams targeting cryptocurrency investors. These scams often involve fraudsters impersonating government officials to request money, including cryptocurrency, or gift cards, which legitimate agencies like CISA never do. Chainalysis reports that cryptocurrency scams, including impersonation schemes, remain a significant threat, generating approximately $4.6 billion in revenue in 2023 alone. Prevention efforts are crucial, focusing on public education to raise awareness about these scams and implementing security measures such as Web3 security extensions to protect users and projects in the decentralised web space.
