Former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried Transferred to Oklahoma Prison Amidst Legal Proceedings
May 23, 2024
Former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried finds himself transferred to the Federal Transfer Center in Oklahoma City, as indicated by prison records, suggesting a potential move to a California prison despite Judge Lewis Kaplan's recommendation to keep him at MDC Brooklyn. Bankman-Fried, convicted of seven felony counts in November 2023 and sentenced to 25 years in prison in March 2024, had requested to remain in New York to facilitate access to his appellate counsel. However, reports indicate the possibility of his transfer to the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Mendota, California, a move that would bring him closer to his parents' residence. The former FTX CEO's relocation to Oklahoma aligns with short-term transfers within the prison system, but the duration of his stay remains uncertain. Notably, Bankman-Fried is the only individual involved in the FTX and Alameda Research collapse to plead not guilty and face conviction, while others connected to the case have accepted plea deals.
