GameStop Pulls the Plug on NFT Marketplace Amid Crypto Regulatory Concerns
Jan 14, 2024
GameStop has announced the termination of its NFT marketplace, marking another withdrawal from the cryptocurrency sector, just two months after shutting down its crypto wallet. The gaming retailer cited "continuing regulatory uncertainty of the crypto space" as the reason for discontinuing its NFT marketplace, which was launched in partnership with Immutable X and Loopring in July 2022. Effective February 2, 2024, customers will no longer be able to engage in NFT transactions on the platform. However, GameStop reassured users that their existing NFTs, stored on the blockchain, will remain accessible and transferable through alternative platforms. This move underscores the challenges and complexities associated with navigating the evolving crypto landscape and the regulatory environment surrounding it.
