Hong Kong Bitcoin and Ether ETFs Garner Over $200 Million on Debut Day, Trailing U.S. Counterparts
Apr 30, 2024
On April 30, the debut of Hong Kong's spot Bitcoin and Ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw over $200 million in total assets attracted. The Bosera HashKey spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs garnered 964 Bitcoin and 4,290 Ether, totaling $71.94 million in assets under management, while ChinaAMC's spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs amassed $123.61 million in combined assets. Despite this, the figures remain modest compared to the billions of dollars attracted by U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs in January. Non-Hong Kong nationals can also subscribe to or purchase units in the ETFs if they meet local regulatory requirements. Additionally, Hong Kong's crypto ETFs allow investors to subscribe for units directly using BTC and ETH, a feature not available for their U.S. counterparts. However, access to these ETFs is currently limited to Hong Kong residents, excluding mainland Chinese investors unless they possess a Hong Kong residence permit.
