London Stock Exchange Opens Doors to Bitcoin and Ether ETNs: Crypto Evolution in the Financial Capital
Mar 24, 2024
The London Stock Exchange has announced plans to introduce a marketplace for bitcoin and ether exchange-traded notes (ETNs), set to launch on May 28. Applications for trading these crypto ETNs will be accepted starting from April 8, pending approval from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the U.K.'s regulatory body. The FCA recently signaled its openness to Recognized Investment Exchanges (RIEs) establishing a listed market segment for ETNs, a move in line with efforts to cultivate a more crypto-friendly environment in the country. These ETNs will be accessible exclusively to professional investors. This initiative aligns with broader governmental efforts to position the U.K. as a leading crypto hub, reflecting a growing acknowledgment of the importance of digital assets within the financial landscape.
