Meta has denied claims by Australia’s competition watchdog, the ACCC, that more than half of crypto ads on Facebook are scams. The ACCC's lawsuit, originally filed in 2022, alleges that 58% of the reviewed crypto ads violated Meta's policies or were linked to scams. However, Meta argues that the ACCC’s data is outdated, relying on a limited 2018 study and not reflective of the platform’s current state.Meta maintains that it has made significant improvements since then, including enhanced manual and automated reviews, machine learning techniques, and opting into the Australian Online Scams Code (AOSC) to combat scam ads. Despite this, the ACCC claims that Meta continues to profit from misleading ads even as it takes action against reported content.
