UK High Court Freezes Craig Wright's Assets in McCormack Defamation Case
Jul 5, 2024
The High Court of the United Kingdom has frozen Craig Wright's assets in response to a World Freezing Order filed to assist Peter McCormack, a podcaster, in recovering approximately $1.9 million in legal expenses incurred during a defamation lawsuit brought by Wright. The legal dispute originated from McCormack's public statements questioning Wright's claim of being Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin. Wright, who began asserting he was Nakamoto in 2016, filed lawsuits against Bitcoin Core developers, alleging copyright violations. However, the court ruled against Wright, concluding he did not provide sufficient evidence to support his claim as Nakamoto and ultimately dismissing his lawsuits. This ruling not only vindicated McCormack but also prompted the freezing of Wright's assets to cover McCormack's legal costs.
