The University of Wyoming is set to launch the UW Bitcoin Research Institute in August 2024. This pioneering academic centre will focus on high-quality, peer-reviewed studies about Bitcoin. The institute is directed by Dr. Bradley Rettler, a Bitcoin activist and Associate Professor at the university, who has emphasised the need for rigorous academic research to better inform public understanding and policy decisions regarding Bitcoin. The institute plans to offer workshops, academic prizes, and host weekly seminars to foster Bitcoin scholarship. It will also retain Bitcoin donations without converting them to other assets​.
