US Navy Introduces PARANOID: Blockchain Security Tech for Software Development
Jun 2, 2024
The United States Navy has launched its proprietary blockchain technology called PARANOID (Powerful Authentication Regime Applicable to Naval Operational Flight Program Integrated Development), designed to secure software against cyberattacks during development and deployment. Developed by the Naval Air Warfare Center’s Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) in Lakehurst, New Jersey, PARANOID ensures the integrity of software by verifying files across nodes at every step of development using blockchain technology. This system creates an immutable ledger of activity, preventing unauthorised changes to code or files during development. Now, the Navy seeks private sector partners through a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA) to further research and develop PARANOID, with an emphasis on securing the software supply chain. This initiative represents the Navy's latest endeavour in utilising blockchain technology for enhancing cybersecurity, following previous collaborations with companies like SIMBA Chain to secure supply lines.
